The National Retail Federation (NRF) has been tracking Halloween spending and trends for a decade now, while the numbers continue to rise, they have not gone up as much due to the 2020 “issues” we experienced in the world. Google tracks trending information searched and has found some of the top trends for 2021.
Halloween Spending
Total spent on Halloween related purchases in 2021 is estimated to be around $10 billion.
$3.3 billion will be spend on costumes.
35-44 year olds are estimated to spend the most money on Halloween, with total expected spending per person of $149.34.
96% of people will purchase candy.
78% of people will purchase Halloween decorations.
40% of Halloween items will be purchased at a discount store.
Halloween Trending
65% of people plan to celebrate Halloween.
65% of people will hand out candy to Trick-or-Treaters.
28% of people will take their kids Trick-or-Treating.
48% of people will carve a pumpkin.
36% of people will do an online search for Halloween inspiration and information.
23% of women will use Pinterest for inspiration and information.
17% of women and 22% of men will use Facebook for inspiration and information.
There is a 375% increase in pumpkin-related searches between September and October.
The most popular keyword searched during this time is “pumpkin patch.”
