With TikTok on the verge of being banned in the United States, putting 170 million people outside in the social cold and stopping the income for thousands of small businesses, everyone is wondering where to go to get their news, find their community and continue to be entertained.
There are several options people have been floating and we decided to take a deep dive into each platform to see what might work best.
Details provided for each platform (when available) include:
· Number of Users
· Country of Origin/Users
· Main Media Type
· Monetization Options
We have found the following platforms, listed in alphabetical order.

Clapper
Launched in July 2020 in Texas. Clapper is a platform available to users 17 and over, featuring short videos and live streams. Providing video posts, livestreams, and radio. Clapper uses algorithms to “promote diverse communities and ordinary people, rather than profiles with large followings.”
As of May 2024, Clapper had around 300,000 daily active users and 2 million active users.
The Clapper stream looks similar to TikTok, though not as polished as TikTok…yet.
According to Clapper, “Creators on Clapper are earning around $3k a month for making content in a variety of ways. All creators have their strengths and weaknesses. Luckily, there is a feature for almost any type of creator on Clapper. If you’ve been wanting to make money on social media, Clapper is the one for you.”
Clapper does offer an in-app store, the Clapper Shop, where businesses can sell products. Clapper charges 5% of each business’ sales, compared to 10% or more on other e-commerce apps.
Clapper offers a Creator’s Guide to Clapper to help you get started.

Fanbase
Fanbase is a subscription-based platform that allows its users to monetize their content. Content can include images, videos including 30-second videos or 10-second stories, and audio chat rooms.
Users earn revenue by charging subscribers access to all of their content. Subscription prices range from $2.99 to $99.99 a month. In addition to subscriptions, creators can earn money with Fanbase’s digital currency “Loves”. Each Love is worth a half penny. Fans can give Love by tapping on a post and sending Loves, which the creator receives. Fanbase takes 20% of all revenue from in-app purchases generated through subscriptions.
One of the best features of Fanbase is that you can migrate all of your TikTok content (with some restrictions) over to Fanbase, so when the app shuts down you will still have your content. You can also migrate your content from Instagram as well.
As of February 2024, Fanbase has over 570,000 users.
Fanbase was founded in 2018 in Georgia and is now a corporation located in Delaware.

Favorited is a livestream only app, allowing users to go live and interact with their audience in real-time. The livestreams are designed to be highly engaging, allowing all users to interact with their favorite creators. Favorited emphasizes “a positive and engaging community environment with interactive feature to facilitate direct communications between streamers and viewers.”
Founded in Santa Monica, CA in 2022. Based on the information we could find this platform is still considered to be in the beta stage of development.
We could not easily find information on monetization, but it does appear that there is the availability for creators to earn on the app and from what we could tell from the Favorited FAQs is that is it largely on gifting coins or gifts purchased with coins. Favorited keeps 30% of funds earned by creators.
The number of users is not documented that we could find. There is no website for more information aside from the application download page.
